“I
have a great need for Christ; I have a great Christ for my need.”
-Charles
Spurgeon
Hello
reader (Brother Danny and Youth Group...). I know, I’m supposed to be typing another three page
essay, but I decided that even if you made me do 100 pushups for not doing that
essay, I’d do this first (I was talking to Brother Danny). But, hopefully, you won’t give me such a cruel,
harsh, mean, horrible punishment. Anyways, back to the essay. Over these
fifteen-or-so lessons, I learned many things that have impacted me, and changed
me in a way. Every single lesson has a message, or truth behind it. For that
reason, I’m glad that we chose to do this book as a Youth Group. My favorite
lesson would have to be lesson twelve. Not only does it show you how we should
act as a Christ-like Christian, but it also tells us what Jesus did when he was
on this Earth. Also, this lesson showed the mindset and passion of Jesus
Christ. After doing reading lesson
twelve, I could truly say that I was abiding with Christ.
First, is the way that, not Pastor Chappell, but Jesus
Christ shows us to act as a follower of him. We all know that Jesus’s main
purpose on this Earth was to die for our sins, which is in the category of
helping others. If I anybody wants to follow the steps of Christ, we need to
start by helping others. We should always be edifying others, and not
ourselves, which I have a hard time doing. Jesus had such power that he could
do anything. Anything. But, for OTHERS, he made of himself no reputation, went
from a king to a servant, humbled himself, and much more when he didn’t need
to. When we humble ourselves, and leave the task to Jesus, he will do it for
us. Jesus is the one that will take care of everything, if we just leave it to
him, and follow what he’s commanded. Jesus’s position was really not anything,
and it was for me. How about showing him back some love?
I also like how this lesson shows us the way Christ lived
while he was on Earth. Like I said before, he chose to be basically nothing for
us. Jesus was a man of ministry, and from ministry, there are great works.
Jesus washed the feet of his disciples. Jesus didn’t have a good life. Jesus
was a servant that worked hard to glorify God, and help others. This is truly
what I need to be. I know that nobody, let alone myself, can be as perfect as
Jesus Christ. But, we can be close. We can follow the guidelines and trails
that he’s left behind for us. If we just follow, he’ll provide. Jesus’s life
wasn’t pleasant, but look where he is now. What happens on this earth doesn’t
matter. I need to be a servant for others.
Finally, this shows the passion and mindset that Jesus
Christ had as a servant. Jesus knew that he wasn’t worthy, as I’m not either.
Jesus wasn’t only a man that was passionate, but a passionate man that acted.
You can’t be passionate and not act. It doesn’t work that way. Jesus shows us
that if we are truly passionate, we’ll help. We’ll act if we are really
passionate. Jesus’s passion was US. Passion is- any powerful or compelling
emotion or feeling, as love or hate. His love, or feeling was for us. Jesus
went through everything that we go through today. I know I need the passion of
Christ.
Overall, this lesson touches on elements we need if
we want to become like Christ. I know I want to be like Christ. That’s why this
is my favorite lesson. I can read over this lesson anytime I don’t know what to
do, or when I don’t feel like myself. I am a servant. I am a passionate
servant, who edifies others, not himself. Or, that’s what I want to be at least. But, it all starts with acting. If you look
at the quote at the top of the page, I have a quote from Charles Spurgeon. We
all need Christ, and need to be more like him. That’s why he’s here. Every day,
he shows us how we ought to act as a follower of him. If I need help, Jesus is
there. But, we have to remember to act like Christ, and express the passion
that he expressed for us.
