During the past few months, we studied about how to abide with Christ. During these lessons I really thought that I grew closer to the Lord. From the next paragraphs I will share what had changed in my life and how the lessons spoke to my heart, along with my decision. But some of the lessons didn't really touch me.
One of the lessons I enjoyed was lesson ten entitled," The Way of Renewal". The theme of the lesson was ," As we conform to the image of Jesus Christ, we will have a greater desire to do God's work by His power and for his glory." During the lesson, Bro. Danny told us that we need to recognize that God can change us, and he also told us that the more we knew God the more you will change. At first, I just thought that it was half true and also half false. But as I was listening to what the word of God had to say like we have to have the desire to be renewed. I always thought that I couldn't change my ways but now I realized that I couldn't change because I didn't have the desire to seek God to change my ways and life. But he also said that God creates a "will" in our hearts to know him and I was ashamed because I pushed down that desire. And I was also ashamed because I didn't seek for God with determination and devotions. I noticed that I also had to abide in renewal and I made a decision to God that I would seek for him and to believe that God can change me everyday. I also learned that with it comes to changing ways, we can't do it with our own power but we have to ask God for help. These are the things I learned from listening to this lesson and studying it.
The next lesson I enjoyed was lesson twelve, which was entitled," Developing the Mind of Christ". The key verse was Philippians 2:5~8 and the theme was, " Developing the mind of Christ involves humility, serving, and becoming passionate about Jesus' purpose for coming to Earth". Listening to this lesson made me realize, not only abiding in Christ is important but developing a mind of Christ was important. We learned several main things of how the mind of Christ was like. He made himself of no reputation, he chose to serve others, and he also humbled himself. Jesus worked for other people and I had a challenge. The challenge was that sometimes I don't like to work and humble myself to certain people, but the bible tells us to have a mind of Christ, I decided that I should always be happy serving others and to humble myself to people, even if I don't want to. I learned a lot of things from this lesson. First, which I already said was to develop a mind like Christ by following some of his attributes. Secondly, I also learned that we had to have a mind like Christ because God wants wants us to spread the gospel to the world and he wants us to give those lost souls a testimony like the one Jesus showed to the people of his time. I also thought about asking God for help to seek him better so I can have a mind that is a little more Christ-like.
The second best lesson I like out of every other lesson is lesson thirteen which was entitled, " Living the Life of Christ". The key verse was John 15:1~5, and the theme was," Inward conformity to Christ will always result in out ward expression of the life of Christ". In this lesson we learned how the life of Christ is. He is the vine and we are the branches. I never knew this but the lesson said that the life of Christ is a relationship to enjoy. I was thinking about that until the end of the study and realized that we will enjoy our life. God will always be with us so we will be happy no matter what happens because we are saved. I also learned that we could go through any trial only if we endurance by His grace. And to live like Christ we need endurance. God will give grace to the humble because those are the people who will be willing to kneel down before Him with a contrite heart. God also commands for obedience so I prayed God to help me to obey my mom better thinking like that it is God's command. These are the things I learned from this particular lesson.
Last but not least, my favorite lesson was lesson fourteen," Expressing the Life of Christ". The key verse was Ephesians 4:17~27 and the theme was," A believer who is becoming like Christ will be changed both inwardly and outwardly. The life of Christ will be expressed in a renewed lifestyle. This was my most favorite lesson out of all the lessons because first, I felt like that I needed this lesson because we live in this world and we would have to go through hard trials and temptations of the world. Secondly, because expressing the life of Christ is an important key for us to show a good testimony and spread the gospel to this world. I learned that we would have to walk a different walk compared to the people of the world to express the life of Christ. We have to stay away from the temptations of the world because of its darkened conditions. But we have to go out to win souls. I learned that we would have to be different from the world to make a difference because if we are like the world we would fall into sin and temptation as soon as we go out to find souls for God. We would have to take out our old self and renew it by the word of God. Jesus is the truth and he will be our teacher and because of that we must love Christ if we are willing to be different from the world. And I asked God to help me to take off my old mask and put on the new mask with new thinkings, and influences. These are the things I learned from this lesson.
Overall, these are the lessons I learned from the saturday bible studies with our class. Even though these decisions might help me, I still know that I am not perfect and will keep on making decisions for God to improve my life. And keep on listening to His Word for more advices, challenges, and wisdom. The end.
